The making of Conan by Mancomb-Seepwood The making of Conan by Mancomb-Seepwood

I havent posted anything in a while.
To tell the truth, I have been working non stop since the last autumn, but I cant show anything.
So, you may think that im not doing anything, but in fact I have more than 30 illustrations that I cant not show until my bosses tell me that I can. I spend between 10 and 14 hours a day painting, which isn´t too good for my sight (like KISS would say "I think Im going blind") and my Blog/Deviant is is starving to death (how ironic).
So I decided to rescue some stuff from the dungeon to show a little making of a Conan Illustration I painted some time ago. Don't spect to learn anything, I just thought that it would be funny to tell the story behind the image.

As you can see, at first I was trying to paint Ajax, from "The Warriors" movie. I love that movie, well, in fact, I love almost all of Walter Hill´s movies, that guy is a master.
After many hours trying to paint a decent portrait of James Remar (Ajax) without any result, I realized that it was starting to look like the classic John Buscema´s Conan (Buscema, another master), so I removed the vest, added a naked lady, and Conan was ready. At that time I used to work with Art Rage a lot, But I doesn´t use it anymore, it doesn´t work properly on windows 7, and, to tell the truth, it sucks, but back in the day, i liked how the brush strokes blend together, it was like the good old oil painting.
There is no mistey in the process, paint with a thick brush until shape, light, and color are fine, and then add details whit a smalll brush. At the end I added some thextures in photoshop, I thought it was cool, but if I had to paint it againt I would´t add any texture, or at least, not in that way.
Also, I tried to paint some background, but I get tired before...
